Description

The peacock — Mayur in Sanskrit — is India's most sacred bird, a symbol of grace, beauty, and auspiciousness. The Shikhavali Kalangi draws its entire identity from this beloved form, sculpted in gold-toned silver and brought to life through the luminous interplay of Jadau stonework and Jaipur's finest meenakari enamel.

The kalangi is shaped as a sweeping peacock feather — a long arching form that curves gracefully from a pointed tip downward to an ornate base. The upper arch is an open gold framework traced with flowing emerald green and cobalt blue meenakari enamel leaf and scroll motifs, through which Glass Polki (Moissanite) kundan stones are individually hand-set in teardrop and kite formations, as if dewdrops caught in the feather's filaments.

At the lower section, the feather broadens into a bold lotus-inspired medallion — a deeply carved composition of emerald green meenakari petals and scrolling gold work, centred by a large teardrop Glass Polki stone in its own meenakari-bordered oval setting. The outer edges burst outward in sculptural emerald green enamel petal forms, framing the centrepiece with natural drama.

From the base and sides hang multiple chains of large, round lustrous freshwater pearls — their creamy luminosity a perfect counterpoint to the rich green and blue of the meenakari enamel above. These pearl drops fall in a generous cluster, swaying softly with movement and completing the piece with a softness that balances its otherwise bold presence.

The Shikhavali is pinned into the hair or attached to a turban using concealed pins at the back, and is suitable for grooms, brides, and festive performers alike. It is a piece of living Indian heritage — rare, regal, and deeply meaningful.
